Review for hawk combo air

Price was $116.23. Love this air-rifle. Scope that came with was worthless and wouldn't adjust. I purchased a bestek scope off of online store for $17. I've nearly eliminated the chipmunks that were causing damage to my shed and garage. Gun is loud compared to some gamo models i have seen.

Bought this on a whim. A chinese build using the well respected ruger name. Shoots great even though the scope is not the best. Ruger blackhawk combo air rifle Review (440106 ssi)

Update: 1-13-2018 i recently purchased a 32 year old rws diana model 45. I has caused me to rerate all my break action air rifles. Update: 3-18 2017 i replaced the scope with something more user friendly, an old daisy powerline 3 x 9 x 32 daisy outdoor products 3-9 x 32 powerlinescope (black, 3-9 x 32) that has served me well on several air rifles for many years. The parallax setting is more target friendly at 10 meters than the supplied ruger scope, and then i did some more pellet testing. The results of the combination of a half decent scope and pellets that the rifle has fallen in love withdaisy 987418-446 win 500 ct . 177, hollow point pellets are pretty good. I think i shot the smallest 5 shot group of my life with a break action springer. Just incredible. Last pictures. Update:2-24-2017. I chronographed this rifle and it shoots daisy hollow points at 960 fps. Bengamin hp's at about 935 with great accuracy. The daisy hp's and the winchesters are probably the same product. They both work well. Very nice rifle at its price point. Will it last? well get some thread locker and learn how to use it. All break barrel's loosen screws. It is the nature of the beast. Maintain it and make it your own. Mine is a keeper. The fit and finish is outstanding. . Update: i let it chose some pellets, (last photo) it seems to get along with the moderately priced winchester hollow points rather well. These results are remarkable when you consider the horrible parallax in the scope is at 10 meters. This target was re-used, thus the random holes. I put tape over the centers and recycled it with the ruger. The blackhawk is a fitting name for this rifle, on the target it shoots nothing but black. Now i am going to have to spend as much on a scope as i did on the rifle to see what it can really do. . Disclaimer: i was born in 1949, don't see so good and am a bit wobbly at times. I am not a very good marksman but i try. 20-200 vision in one eye screws up depth perception, due to lack of vision i have to shoot left handed even though i am right handed. . 1 packaging, first rate, perfect undamaged condition. 2 documentation, best i have ever received with an air rifle and scope. 3 fit and finish. Absolutely perfect smooth metal and perfect bluing. 4 iron sights, right on windage , very low vertical factory setting. Quickly adjusted. Right on in 10 shots. 5 scope. Above average focus and sharpness for its price point. Typical horrible parallax at 10 meters. Better than some. Nice low mounts. This is one of the easiest air rifles i ever dialed in. I ran about a dozen cheap daisy pellets that almost fall out of the barrel to sight in the iron sights. I thoroughly cleaned the barrel before shooting it and only had 2 pellets that dieseled, it seemed to settle down after about a dozen shots. I switched to rws wad cutters 8. 2 gr to sight in the scope. My rifle has a very deep loading chamber, i use a 2 phillips screwdriver bit to seat the pellets. I used only 11 pellets to get it roughly dialed in at 10 meters. I then shot 26 more pellets with what i consider great results, tweaking the scope every once in a while. As you can see the 3 and 4 shot groups show the rifle can do it if you do your part. I am pretty sure i can find some pellets that work even better, but my preliminary results are extremely good. The trigger was pretty good right out of the box, but then again i am used to some horrible ones. I will adjust it when i have the 'time and will update this review when i learn more about this rifle. So far it is just plain good. Nothing to not like about it, except the scope, but even that is much better than can be expected at this price point. It is actually useable and will probably be pretty good at longer distances. I did not have my crono set up but i used my 28 gage sheet metal crono and it seems to be about 950 fps perhaps a little more based on the results as compared to my hatsan edge 177 and benjamin maximus 177 that i have crono'd 984 and 986 recently. This seems to be a sweet spot for accuracy with many "normal weight" pellets. -V. Mathis

Bought this air rifle after looking through all the customer reviews. I wasn't too happy about the response towards the scope but after actually zeroing in the scope when i got it, it worked perfectly. Considering it is not a top of the line scope it did what was intended to do. I recommend not to alternate between different types of . 177 pellets when zeroing in your scope since each has a different flight pattern due to weight and design. I went with crosman destroyer . 177 cal, 7. 9 grains, pointed, 250ct to zero in the scope and it worked really well. I had to tweak the scope to the desired settings and at the end i had about 1"-3" groupings from around 30 yards. The pellets also do a considerable amount of damage and are accurate as well. The air rifle comes with a manual, gun registration cards, safety information, and the 4x32 scope is made by ruger as well, and comes with all needed screws and rings to mount onto the gun. Overall the air rifle is well built and comes well oiled, so you might need to wipe some of the excess off when you are going to use it for your first time. The break barrel mechanism is really smooth and the safety turns on after every reload. I love this gun and i hope my review helps future buyers.

Crosman Field Hunting .177 Cal, 7.4 Grains, Pointed, 1250ct

Pellets can be pricey, especially some of the fancier brands so i went into this not expecting much but simply to quench my curiosity. I use the crosman hollowpoints quite often and figured these couldn't be much worse. I was wrong. These are better! not only do they give me better accuracy than some pellets costing remarkably more money, but they're so affordable as to make them my number one go to. Most pellets come in 250-500 qty containers. Read the side of this and you'll see this is 1250 - twelve hundred and fifty pellets for $10 give or take? yeah, i'm sold!

Want your shots to travel further? these are great pellets for hunting and plinking. Super point . 177 caliber pellets the maximum distance for your airgun. 1250 per carton.

Crosman Field Hunting .177 Cal, 7.4 Grains, Pointed, 1250ctCrosman-Hunting-Grains-Pointed-1250ctWant your shot to travel further? turn to the crosman 0. 177-caliber super point field-hunting pellets, which are great for hunting and plinking. Weighing 7. 4 grains each, the pellets help you get the maximum distance for your airgun. The carton comes with 1, 250 pellets. Warning: lead airgun ammunition contains a chemical known to the state of california to cause cancer and birth defects (or other reproductive harm). Do not inhale dust or put pellets in mouth. Wash hands after handling.

Crosman Field Hunting .177 Cal, 7.4 Grains, Pointed, 1250ct (p1250) FAQ.

Great pellets; happens to be cheap too! just as you expect from crosman. I use it to shoot some pesky birds and ground squirrels around my property. I shoot with a crosman 3051 nitro fury rifle (with 3-9&40mm simmons scope). I tried comparison shooting with groups of 5 pellets, same gun, same weather, distance, position, etc. The pellets were: this ones, crosman premier domed 10. 5g, umarex meisterkugeln(8. 2 grains), crosman destroyer, daisy precision max pointed. To my surprise, the best groups i had with the crosman field hunting box of 1250, which luckily were the cheapest per count too. After that, good results had with the crosman destroyers and domed 10. 5gr target. Less than happy with the umarex pellets, and absolutely hate the daisies! avoid daisy pellets-absolute junk! so at the end, i will be happy to buy in the future the field hunting boxes of pellets and some destroyers for more serious game(rabbits, possums, skunks, etc. ) -Notice from I. Juliana, Hawaii

These pellets perform the task for which i purchased them. I have a lot of bird feeders and naturally they attract squirrels. I use the pellet gun to shoo the squirrels away from the feeders. I don't aim at the squirrels and i don't hit them but the sound of the pellet hitting the ground sends the squirrels away. I have food for the squirrels about 30 yards from where the bird feeders are located but they are not satisfied with just what i put out for them. They want the bird food as well. The pellets are a consistent size and shape and work well in my pellet gun.

- G. RuffI've ordered a couple of milk carton containers of these pellets and tried them in some of my air guns. First, they are usually a very good buy here at online store. But sometimes the price goes way high. Then, i'll wait for it to go down again. Second, i am not finding any damaged or deformed pellets yet. Third, in some of my air guns (example daisy powerline model 35) i have tried and tried, but they will not consistently group well. Oh, i can get occasional fantastic groups, but then there will be uncalled fliers. My most accurate air rifle is my crosman custom shop 2400 co2 carbine with 15" barrel. This gun gives me the highest percentage of tiny one hole groups. And it loves these field hunter pellets. I recently had to take out 2 wild roosters on my property. They are very hard to kill even with a . 22 long rifle. I needed precise shot placement, so i went with the 2400 carbine. I tried a penetration test with these pellets and that gun into a small piece of 1x2 wood. It sunk the pellet about 3/8" into that solid wood and embedded it there. I sighted it in at 12 yards and kept getting group after group measuring 0. 0" center to center, or very close to it. You can't get a group better than that. This combination worked well on both roosters. The second one ran maybe 15 yards and collapsed. I could not catch and release these roosters somewhere else as they were too darn wary of me. My neighbors butchered both and ate them. They lived on my property for over a year totally free ranging, so had good rooster lives. But they kept trying to draw my hens off my property. Anyway, these pellets, in that gun, were a great combination. Match accuracy and good power. Only 4 stars because they don't work this well in my other air guns, but work so well in this one, that 4 stars seemed appropriate. These pellets are worth your money to give them a try. I know of other people with the same model of air gun as some of mine, and theirs love them, but mine doesn't. You never know without trying a pellet whether your gun will like them or not. And sometimes an air gun will suddenly, or over time, change it's mind on which pellet is the best.

My son was the recipent of a pellet gun for his birthday, within a week he was out of pellets and we were looking for more, after going to a sporting goods store i decided to look online to see if we could find them cheaper since he was going through them so quickly. When i found this box i got excited. My son can now sit outside and shoot at his target as long as he wants, and i kniw we wont need to order more for quite a while. The price point on this box is perfect. These pellets are just as nice as the more expensive box we got at a sporting goods store, the leave little dings in his target (that he likes) and they dont jam in his gun

So far so good fairly accurate i sighted my pellet rifle in at 80ft with these and the first shot that i took at a yard pest. Successfully eliminated the yard pest quickly. Pro tip: when you're done with all the pellets keep the can and poke a hole in the top with a screw driver. You can use this as a char cloth container. Just throw some 100% cotton cloth you want to recycle into it, and pop it your camp fire, then take it out after a few minutes. Viola, you have some great fire starting material. It will take a spark easily and you can nest it inside some nice tender. -Notice from N. Kelly, New Mexico

I purchased 500 crosman hollowpoint pellets to fire from my 760 pumpmaster, and was disappointed in the accuracy achieved. As the 760 uses a smoothbore barrel, the pellets appeared to be tumbling immediately and yawing off-target. After reading a large number of reviews, i ordered a can of destroyer pellets. I barely had to re-zero the optics on my rifle, and was making half-inch groups at 15 yards. When i stepped out to about 40 yards, my groups opened up due to the pellets dropping. If i were using a telescopic sight, i compensate for this fairly easily, but this is not as straightforward with a simple reflex sight. However, even at this range, the pellets retained sufficient kinetic energy to nearly punch through a thin sheet of scrap metal. At 15 yards, multiple pellets partly or completely pierced the metal. I am very impressed with the accuracy these pellets deliver even with an inexpensive smoothbore rifle! while i have yet to use these pellets against small game, i have a lot of confidence in my ability to properly place shots on squirrels, and do not doubt that these pellets would deliver a clean and humane kill.

- E. EdnaThis review is mostly for the crossman destroyer, but a side concern is for those that are considering buying the destroyer ex. The regular destroyer is a pellet that works fine. Use it as a baseline for your evaluation of the ex product sold at walmart. Yes, the walmart spinoff is very inexpensive. You think you're getting a deal. But all things are relative. If you're shooting for target practice then either one is perfectly fine. If your plans are for small-critter population control then stay away from the ex version. What you'll get is a continuous heartbreak. You see, the ex version expands too quickly and doesn't penetrate. What you end up doing is maiming the critter. The either walk/fly way wounded or you see them in the neighborhood 3 days later, belly up. Not one pure event, just pain and suffering for hours / days. . Know your usage and buy accordingly. There's an excellent visual display on youtube. The demonstrator shot through clay and cut it in half. The outcome of the crossman regular vs the ex are immediately obvious. Hope this helps.

I purchased an assortment of pellets for a break-barrel ruger blackhawk elite that i recently purchased, trying to find which work best. These pellets are by far the best performer. That shocked me given the weight and design. I thought for sure they'd be erratic in a high velocity air rifle. They mushroom something fierce on impact, shredding aluminum cans and whatever else they hit. I immediately ordered a second tin.

The F.A.Q. for ruger blackhawk combo air rifle

This is a wonderful air rifle/scope combo, and i cannot believe that it cost only $80-100 depending on where you shop. The trigger is fine. I like the factory setting. A long, light first stage, that you take up while getting on target. The the second stage breaks nicely when you want to fire. I like it. It is as good or better than some centerfire rifles that i have shot. Cocking the rifle takes some effort and would be problematic for someone with less than average strength. I am a pretty normal guy and am able to shoot the gun for some time before wanting to take a break. The scope, while inexpensive, is fine and of above average quality for air rifles based on the three air combination packages (gun/scope) that i looked over, the other two being an umarex throttle and a crosman phantom np. It seems to hold its zero, and mounted easily enough on the rings that came with the rifle. The scope must only wholesale for less than $5 given that the whole rifle/scape combination is $80-100. You can see the front sight when looking through the scope, which is not a big deal and my biggest complaint about the product. If i bought an inexpensive 22lr rifle and this scope came as an extra. If i could find this scope selling for $10-15 retail i would buy a bunch of them. Accuracy seems fine. I have only been shooting off-hand using h&n baracuda green lead-free pellets at about 8 yards (the width of my garage) and am able to keep all my shots inside the black of a 1. 2" target (nra 10-meter air rifle target 4-ring). More than adequate for a hunting gun. With the 4x scope you can see the pellet hit the paper. The rifle is slightly longer than my hunting rifle, and almost as heavy as my hunting rifle, which is a ruger m77 mkii in 270 win. So, in the 8 pound range. The shape and feel of the stock are almost identical to my ruger m77 mkii hunting rifle, which makes the ergonomics of the air rifle and practicing with the air rifle translate directly to big game hunting. I love it.

The quality of this gun i received a few days ago is impressive. Weighty for sure and not for the young at heart as to the weight and strength to break the barrel. I sighted in the hard sights at about 30 yards and got to groups of 1/2" and figured that was ok. I have used the gun for 3 days now and shot approx. 40 rounds and really like the accuracy using the umarex meisterkugeln pellets, . 177, competition 8. 2g. Breakdown gets some better after multiple breaks but this is not an issue for me. I am very pleased with the design of the stock even though it's weight is not that well balanced. The barrel thickness is of good quality and the only drawback which is not a deal breaker with me is the amount of play on the trigger to the resistance point. I adjusted the adjusting screw as far as it goes but still more than i would want but got used to it quickly as i would pull back gently until i would feel resistance and the hold there. I had a squirrel that liked to use my roof as a crossing point between trees and would causing some other issues but i caught him in top of a maple tree. I tried the scope & was able to adjust the elevation but not the windage as the scope would not bring the target in as it was always shooting 8" to the right with the screw adjusted all the way.

Do you want/need/like to shoot things? backyard pests or targets? this tool satisfies that function confidently and competently, and looks good in the meantime. You can do what i did and dig through reviews on 823 million different pellet guns online comparing looks, weight, build quality, power, etc. Or you can just buy a gun that pushes a pellet really fast and powerfully to/through exactly what you're aiming at and yawns at how easy it did so . It's a pellet gun that enjoyment shooters will appreciate because it's dense and strong and real-feeling. It doesn't shoot high-caliber rounds to impress the seasoned nra gun collectors in your area, and it won't do much to defeat isis. At the same time, it will quickly extinguish nuisance birds, rodents, and shaken-up cans of beer with purpose and poise, while looking sharp and aggressive with the ruger label in the black steel reminding you that you're not a girly-man (or woman). Solid, heavy, powerful, no-nonsense. This pellet gun is no joke, no toy, and no surprises. I like that. You will, too.

This was my first springer pellet rifle, and i was not disappointed! i wanted to find a higher powered pellet rifle ( 1000 fps) that had decent iron sights, and this fit the bill perfectly! i don't really like scopes all that much. This rifle comes with beautiful fiber optic sights that glow brightly in both bright and low light conditions. I can consistently hit steel targets ranging from 10 yards, all the way out to about 60 yards, without compensating for the drop of the pellet. Shoots pretty flat! i did try the scope that people complain about, and i had no issues. It sighted in easily, and held zero for 100 shots or so, and did not move. Your accuracy will diminish as the barrel gets dirty though, but a few quick swabs with some ballistol brings her right back. I use the crosman hollow point pellets, because they're inexpensive and readily available. The only issue i had was that the 3 screws that hold the stock to the barrel of the rifle would loosen up, and just about fall out. But some blue loctite solved this problem. I couldn't ask for much more. It's a very comfortable shooter. The stock is a nice, full size, with some weight to it. I would not hesitate to take a squirrel or other small game with this. It may be difficult for some smaller kids/elderly folks to cock the spring, but i don't think its excessively hard. Umarex seems to make good stuff, and i love rugers! i could go on and on, but you should buy it and see for yourself! . . Just buy it. You know you want it!

Very easy to calk, load, and aim is spot on once adjusted. This thing kicks ass! i use it for pest control, i had a bunch of online store boxes around, so i made a one foot thick target out of all those boxes. This thing shot right through the target and a one by two wood trim before coming to rest on the floor. Scary power, blows away my repeat pumper. After weeks of use the power has gone down some, i guess as it gets broken in it can't maintain the power it had when it was brand new. Still works great though.

6/4/18: short update - this is a very powerful springer - i have shot several rabbits around 30 yards, and the pellets have gone clear through the critters, even through shoulder muscles. . I am not a 'professional' when it comes to air guns, but i find this one a superior value! i had a beeman sportsman for the past 15 years that i was reasonably happy with - killed many hundreds of squirrels with it in my back yard trying to keep the nasty things out of my attic. (i had both nut and fruit trees in the yard, so the danged things were constantly mobbing me - tree rats are very cute and great eating, but they do a lot of damage when they move into the house! ) that beeman springer would generally hold about 1" groups at 15 yards, but the internal piston seals got hard and started breaking up recently, so i was looking for a replacement. I tried a new beeman sportsman, and it was pure garbage - i will never buy another of that brand. . This ruger/umarex has surpassed all my expectations. I have fired several hundred rounds through it in the past few days, and it will generally hold 1/2" or less groups at 15 yards. It holds the same point of aim out at 25 yards, but the groups open up to about an inch, or maybe a bit more (i really have not shot too much at that longer range). I am using bulk crosman lead wad-cutter "competition" pellets (the cheapest ones i could find on online store), and the results are so good i feel no need to test any others. . I love the safely placement and operation - far superior to the garbage beeman makes; it is both easy to reach and take off, as well as put back on if i decide not to take the shot. And the trigger on this ruger is just superb. It is adjustable, but it has been so smooth and perfect right out of the box that i have not made any changes. . It is still kind of early for me to pass judgement on the scope, but it seems pretty good for one just included with a sub-$100 gun. It has surprising heft, which indicates to me it may be of decent quality, and it does seem to hold point of aim after it is adjusted. The only negative so far is that it seemed to be a bit erratic on the click adjustments - sometimes moving the poi far too much with only a click or two. But it is still possible that what i was seeing was simply my poor shooting. After i got it all sighted in, i have been loath to start screwing with it to re-test the adjustments. . I have not checked the velocity yet with my chronograph, but frankly, everything else about this gun seems so nice that i do not really care if it fully meets the specs for velocity or not. Cannot believe this was less than $100! . . One last comment on accuracy that has nothing to do with this specific gun - i found that i cannot use a full bench rest stand to test it (for the same reason you cannot use a normal scope on an air gun). The forward "recoil" of the mechanism causes the gun to jump in the cradle, which results in vertical strings (i had never tried this rest with an air gun before, so the results initially surprised me). Only after i started shouldering the gun and just letting the forearm rest on the front cradle did i start getting really accurate results.

Over fathers day i finally got to zero in the scope and now i can do this review and share my opinions. The delivery time was quick and when the ups driver delivered it he just set it by the front and rang the door bell and my first opinion was formed when my wife answered the door and i heard her struggling with something. When i got up to see what was going on i found her dragging this package across the floor because she couldn t lift it. I relieved her of the chore and unpacked my new pellet gun. I was very surprised as to how heavy it was. It is heavier than my 12 gauge shotgun and my 20 gauge pump shotgun. When my friend who has 3 ar-15s picked it up he noted that it is heavier than any of his ars as well as well as any of his other long guns and he has a large gun cabinet full of guns. . I wanted to test fire it immediately and that is when i formed my second opinion. I tried to cock it with one hand i was surprised at the difficultly of compressing the spring. After about five minutes i figured out that i could do it by sitting down and putting the stock on the floor between my feet and using both hands out near the end of the barrel i could finally cock it. I will note here that when i was younger i had very good hand and arm strength but now i am 77 years old. . Ok, now it was time to shoot it and i set up a 3 x3 yellow post-it note on a big tree about 35 away and using the iron sights my first shot was a bit low and to the left about 1 from my aiming point. My wife who is a good shot went next and her effort was low and to the left also about 1. 5 from her aiming point. I decided that i would make some adjustments to the sights later but start installing the scope now. . My third opinion was formed when i saw the size of the instruction for the ruger and details provided for the scope. I read the instructions for the scope and took notice that the scope manufacturer makes more than one model of scope and the one included instructions was obviously the higher end model. The scope included with the ruger was the low end model. The photographs provided shows that when assembling and mounting the scope the windage adjustment was on the left side of the scope and the elevation on the top. I printed out some bulls eye targets on 11. 5 x 8. 5 paper and set it up at 10 yards. My first group was high and to the right and 6 from the bulls eye. I started making my adjustments and i worked on it for a week as i watched my results walk all over the target and finally ended up off the bottom of the target. At this point i was getting very frustrated and i finally decided that i had misinterpreted the scope orientation and the scope was installed 180 degrees rotated to the right. I corrected that error but now the scope adjustment was screwed up as a soup sandwich. My daughters gentleman friend came over for father s day and i explained the problems i was having and he said that he would give it a try. Now this guy is 6 3 and 245 pounds and he was really having to strain in order to cock the gun. He was grimacing and frowning on his first attempt. He kept at it and after a few efforts was able to cock it with one hand but it still required some effort. We continued with the scope adjustments and after checking my notes, the scope was out about 150 clicks on. Windage and about the same on the elevation. . We spent the rest of the day just having fun and making a few fine adjustments to the scope. Now my daughter is the best shot in the family and enjoys going to shooting competitions and shoots hand guns, shotguns and ar-15s. When she took a turn she put 98% of her shots in 1 groups right in the center of the bulls eye. . So from my experience annotated above i gave the ruger blackhawk combo a four rating.

P. Broyles, Pennsylvania says

Shoots pretty consistent as long as you dont use the scope. Tried using scope, after sighting it in shot a pretty good group but then it went off consistent group low and to right. Adjusted scope again and after a dozen or so shots it moved again, low and to right again. Repeated this a few more times and this scope is incapable of any kind of reliability.

H. Newell, St. Helens

Don't click the online store suggested bundle of pellets & c02 cartridges. $7 i didnt need to spend. . The actual rifle is great. Well made and heavy, if anything, a bit too heavy. Not great for holding up for long periods waiting for little gopher heads to murder. I slapped the scope on, didnt do any sighting. Killed a gopher 20' out first try. . It is fairly loud and makes the nearby golfers a bit nervous.

D. Rose, Rhode Island says

For the price, it is an outstanding rifle. I don't really have noise concerns in my area, but i don't feel comfortable shooting . 22 lr at anything but a good berm. . 177 pellets do not travel far once they hit something, but are still lethal to small game. I tried a couple different pellets, and have got about 2" groups at 30 yards which is good enough for me. The gun is surprisingly loud for 3 shots then all of a sudden its silent. All you hear is the spring of the gun. The fiber optic open sights are very good. The scope is all it needs to be. A fixed 4x works fine for me, the picture is plenty clear, and it holds a zero. My only complaint is the trigger is poor. It says it is adjustable, but all you can adjust is the free play before it finally catches. While crisp, the trigger is very hard to pull to the point of being a hindrance. I do not have a scale, but i would guess its at least an 8 pound pull trigger.

G. Taylor, Hertfordshire

I needed an air rifle, so i proceeded to be a cheapskate and get the low budget sub-$50 versions. I literally purchased 4 of them, and had to return the first 3. The ruger blackhawk is now my fifth air rifle in one month, and here's my experience with it:. . Out of the box it looks like a masterpiece. Very solid construction, with just the right amount of heaviness. It feels like an actual hunting rifle. . This is my first break barrel air rifle, so that took nearly 40-50 shots before i acclimated to the differences between it and standard pump air rifles. There's some serious barrel movement when you fire. . It's 1200 fps. Which sounds amazing, because it is, but this amount of power has drawbacks in some scenarios. First, it's loud. And i mean loud. It absolutely sounds like actual rifle fire. Say goodbye to the quiet snap sounds of lower powered pellet guns. . At 1200 fps, you have to be more careful than ever regarding the direction you're aiming. These pellets will rip right through fence wood, plastic, an siding. And windows that you thought might be too far to impact? no - this will shatter them if you miss your solid target. . It's definitely not a toy. Unless you're a mature 25+ year old adult, i don't recommend this gun. It rips holes the size of an actual bullet, so i caution you to keep this in mind whenever you're hunting small game in areas with people/homes nearby. This type of pellet gun is probably best for rural areas where you don't have to worry about accidentally hitting things. . Now, for the scope. . There are a lot of complaints about the scope not working. I thought this too at first, and made two different mistakes. A) the metal dials are screw-off, they do not adjust the sight. You have to remove them to access the actual sighting screws. B) the actual sighting screws need a lot of clicks before they get honed in. I needed 67 clicks to raise the horizontal site, and 24 clicks to shift the vertical sight to the right. I recommend going in 5-click increments, and shooting one shot at a time onto a marked target to measure each change. One line at a time - don't try changing both at once. . All in all, for about $100, this gun possesses sturdiness, a functional scope, and the power needed to kill rodents. It's exactly what you want, and more, from a gun at this price point. . Accuracy wise, you need to be a pretty good shot to like this gun. If you don't know how to shoot, you will get frustrated thinking it's inaccurate. It absolutely requires patience and 10-50 shots to get used to how it fires.

M. Angela, Yukon Territory says

When i received this rifle the first thing i did was clean the barrel with a brush-less bore snake. The barrel took three passes to have it super clean. I put two drops of crossman oil in the barrel and ran the bore snake though it one time. Here is something to remember some people over oil their firearms. This can cause dieseling which means the oil in the barrel will ignite causing a explosion in the barrel when you fire it. This will eventually damage the seals or barrel. The instructions that come with this rifle tell you never dry fire it, if you do it causes the air cylinder to bottom out and ruin the cylinder. If you go to the ruger website you will see they recommend never to use a metal brush to clean the barrel. I loaded the rifle with a gammo rocket pellet. I set up a 8 inch target 10 yards away. With out touching the fiber optic site i fired the first round and the pellet hit 4 inches high on the target. I then reloaded and this time i relaxed my grip on the rifle and fired and the pellet hit the bull eye center but to the far left. I adjusted the sight two clicks to the right and then fired again. The pellet hit 1/4 of a inch to the left of the bulls eye. Now i fired again but gripping the rifle firmly. I hit the target 5 inches low. I kept firing the rifle holding it lightly and then firmly. When i held it lightly i hit the bulls eye consistently. When i held it tightly wouldn't hit within four inches of the bulls eye. You need to not suppress the forward and back recoil on this rifle by holding it firmly. Hold it about four inches in front of the trigger guide, let it just rest in your palm and then lightly grasp the rifle with your other hand and let the rifle recoil. I shot the rifle 40 times trying both ways of holding the rifle. Lightly holding the rifle created constant bulls-eyes, holding it tightly created inaccurate shots consistently. The fixed sights glow brightly. I didn't try the scope because i am going to use my utg scope on it once i break in the rifle about another 100 shots, so i can't give you any opinion of the scope that comes with it. The trigger has a 2 stage screw on it to adjust how much travel you have before the rifle fires. I have it set with the least amount of travel before it fires. It has the checker grips on it to hold it. I like this composite stock. If you look here on online store you can find this rifle with the wood stock for a little more money. This rifle seems to require less effort to break the barrel over than my crossman or bee man pellet guns. At ten yards it is extremely powerful. With the gammo rocket pellets it easily goes completely though the 1/2 inch sheet of marine plywood as a back stop. I had to add another sheet of half inch plywood to it and it deeply penetrated the second sheet but didn't go though it. So far i am very happy with this pellet rifle. Time will tell how reliable it will be,

Z. Sarah, Saskatchewan

Due to my inexperience, this thing shoots through a 3/4" plywood like through a sheet of paper. If i could do this again, i would settle for a less powerful model. But it does take care of the pests, no question about that.

L. Joanne, Rheinland-Pfalz says

My friend is into target shooting n i got this for her. We tried it w daisy winchester . 144, shot a few times. Worked fine, easy to cock but wear a glove for repeat use. Not that loud, doesn't sound like a gunshot at all, just a spring releasing . It kicks a little n barrel has vapor after firing.

J. Anonymous, Northamptonshire

I purchased this to assist in a vermin issue and have to say it is an excellent shot. I took it out to the woods and dialed in the sights at 100ft and then used it to deal with a problem we were having. This works very well and is accurate and powerful enough to assist you in handling various unwanted guests.
