Minus33 Merino Wool Midweight Neck Gaiter (730p) 5556

Review for midweight neck

Price was $21.99 - $24.99. Wearing this in 30-40f weather and keeps my neck, nose and ears warm. I bike daily commuting and with the added windchill of going 20 mph this is a must have. Very thin but warm.

Foreword

The knit fabric is soft (not buttery soft) and comfortable. It is a merino wool knit fabric sewn into a tube, fold into half then sewn at the bottom. This makes the neck gaiter thicker. The sewing is good and clean. It fits my 16 ! /2" neck comfortably. Not too tight nor too loose. It is long enough for me to easily pull up over my nose and mouth. I hope this will keep my head and face warm together with my beanie in a sub zero weather. Minus33 merino wool midweight neck gaiter Review (730p)

My only complaint is that the fit is too snug for my taste. I prefer the fit of my wool buff, but i do appreciate the quality and thickness of this one. I am keeping it, but i cannot wear it all day like i can a buff. -H. Patton

Lovely, real merino wool. Perfect for very cold days. I used my for over a year. This one i bought as a gift for a friend. . One word of caution: this is made of real merino wool, so at the end of the winter season it is best stored with cedar or other moth protection, because moths love to eat holes in wool, especially if there was any sweat on the wool.

Minus33 Merino Wool Women's Franconia Midweight Bottom

I love my minus33 wool long underwear. These are a less expensive option than the smart wools i previously owned, and they have lasted a lot longer. They also are an improvement in overall comfort due to the design of the shape and stitching. These are great for wearing under work clothes on cold commutes or for a base layer for outdoor exercise in the winter. These wash well and do not get any pilling of material after multiple laundry cycles. I have not had the need to launder them after every use because they vent away moisture so well and do not seem to get stinky at all. The fit of these is extremely comfortable and are never too hot to wear all day in the office. . I paid full price for this product. If my review has helped you at all, please click the yes button below or add your comment to let me know how else i can help.

Minus33 Merino Wool Women's Franconia Midweight Bottom (803cg) FAQ.

Very comfy and i wore them to ski. However they are a little bigger for me. I am 120lbs, 5'6 and normally wear size 4. I would order xs next time. -Notice from B. Clara, Brandenburg

- L. KathleneI love these thermals. When i took them out of the package i thought there was no way they could possibly keep me warm. I was so wrong. This morning when i began my commute, it was 16 f. I usually walk for about 30 minutes with a brief light rail ride in the middle and then i stand around for upwards of 30 minutes waiting for the keyholder at work. Between these thermals, sorel snow boots, a down parka, and a hand knit wool balaclava i am quite comfortable in sub-freezing temperatures. While i am walking i may even break a sweat! but the real test is when i'm out in the cold, but sedentary. Usually (standing for that amount of time in these temps), without these thermals i wouldn't have any feeling from the waist down - as if i'd waded to work through waist deep ice water. However, after standing around outside for half an hour this morning, i was certainly not toasty, but i was comfortable. I'd suggest adding more or heavier layers if you are spending more than an hour or two in sub-freezing temps unless you plan to be active. On the other hand, my place of employment never gets above 68 f or so, but when i've experienced temps higher than that while wearing these under other layers i felt like i might spontaneously combust. . As for the technical qualities of this item: the stitching is strong and not noticeable against skin. They are easy to wash and i haven't experienced any pilling. They do seem to run a touch large and stretch pretty dramatically with wear (not an issue with quality, basically unavoidable in 100% wool knitted garments). I would probably go down one size in the future. . In conclusion, i wholeheartedly recommend these thermals. I can't imagine ever going out in the cold without them again.

This is my second pair and there is a reason why i bought these again. They are the best i've ever had and that's saying something - being from a cold northern country i've worn pretty every type of wool there is. I bought xl the first time around but they were a little big but still fine. So i bought a l now and they fit perfect. I can wear them alone in very cold weather and feel absolutely fine. My other pair is xl so when temperatures drop to negative f i wear both of them for extra insulation. My old ones still keep their form and look like new even after two years (a little warning: watch out for velcro though - it will snag the wool).

Minus33 Merino Wool Men's Kancamagus Midweight Bottom

The softest, the best waist band, and a great fit. I'm deeply in love with these and have ordered a few pairs now that i wear regularly. So comfortable! . Edit-just receive a response back from minus33 regarding an inconsistency i found with the sizing between the lightweight and midweight pieces. The lightweight pieces i ordered seemed shorter than the kancamagus midweight. The designer has informed me that the pieces are cut the same, though the jersey knit fabric of the lightweight products stretches differently than the interlock knit fabric of the midweight fabric. That's why i can pull the kancamagus up real high to combat my hank hill waist/lack of arse, while the lightweight products seem to be shorter. So it looks like i'm a midweight man from here on out!

Product story blankets are nice. Pants are nice too. Combine the warmth of a blanket with the functionality of a pant, and you get this classic midweight bottom. Don t let the cool fall or frigid winter keep you inside any longer. Put these on under your favorite pants and you will be warm, dry, and ready for hours of outdoor fun! 1 year warranty minus33, a division of l. W. Packard company, inc. Minus33 Merino Wool Men's Kancamagus Midweight Bottom (706) FAQ.

I first heard about merino wool base layers through smartwool and figured that because of their industry name, they probably offered the best product. After reading a number of reviews on both brands i decided to go with the slightly cheaper and equally well rated minus 33 mid weight base layers. Honestly though, the main deciding factor is that minus 33 is one of the few, if not the only brands that offers such a product in medium tall. It seems like tall sizes start from large up, leaving people with my build in between two to awkward fitting sizes. I usually wear 30x34 pants (if i can find them), so the medium tall size is perfect for me. These work great for me for a wide range of activities including, daily cycle commuting year round, hiking, lounging, or just wearing underneath jeans on any given winter day. I was wearing under armor cold gear for the same purposes during the last few seasons and i think these are equally as warm if not more so once you start moving around. They're also superior in that they don't stink nearly as bad or as quickly as under armor or any other synthetic base layer and they're softer and more comfortable. I recommend picking up a pair here and there as they come on sale. -Notice from T. Lewis, Northwest Territries

I cycle throughout the year-including winter-in toronto weather for my daily commutes which takes around twenty minutes both ways so i decided to purchase this midweight base layer from minus33. This layer fits tightly enough and the sizing is accurate (with the size i normally purchase for clothes) to be worn under most jeans/tracksuits/trousers. I would like to emphasize the word most as even in my slim fit jeans, they fit well but i can imagine that for skinny jeans, there would not be enough room to wear a base layer. . In terms of function, i am very happy with the warmth they provide. The merino wool has truly made my bike rides through the winter snow and slosh bearable! not only are they comfortable, they also allow my skin to breathe which is necessary since my legs generate heat whilst cycling-even in the winter. Having worn the same pair around about four months in a row, and only washing them maybe once every three weeks, they have not generated any odor, and have not shown any signs of pilling. . Although the price tag is a little steep compared to synthetic base layers, minus33 is competitively priced for merino wool. And i believe that the wool makes all the difference since it feels to me far better for breathability and staying stench free! i am very thankful for the high quality of this product and would happily recommend them to anyone who wants an easy maintenance product which provides plenty of warmth.

- K. GilmoreI wore this all last winter. I love several things about this:. - the merino wool is absolutely itch-free. - it fits well. While there are many competitors offering similar products, to the best of my knowledge minus33 is one of the only ones to offer tall sizes. - unexpected benefit - wool really does apparently have inherent anti-bacterial properties. I found that i was able to wear this 24x7 for a week at a time without it getting odiferous. - machine washable! i just turned it inside out, put it in the washing machine with a wool-friendly detergent, and it washed great! . - i got a competitor product (ll bean cresta midweight pants) but didn't like it because it didn't have cuffs. This minus33 has cuffs at the ankles that keep the legs from riding up when you pull on a pair of pants over these (the bean product rode up uncomfortably). - it has proven quite durable. After an entire season of near-constant use, it appears to be still in "new" condition. . I found the manufacturing quality to be excellent. It served me well all last winter and i'm looking forward to wearing it again for much of this coming winter. . A fantastic value that i'm glad to have available to me in my drawer.

These are great. Very thin, but warm. I use them for lounging around, since i'm single and don't have to worry about who might be looking at me with disgust. On a cold day i wear them under my lightweight hiking pants (the loose fitting ones where the legs zip off) and the combination of the two layers is about as comfortable a set up as i have ever worn. I wish i could just wear this arrangement to work every day, but i work in a bank and being comfortable is frowned upon.

Minus33 Merino Wool Men's Chocorua Midweight Crew

I love everything about this shirt except that merino wool attracts things due to the static so you may want to keep a lint brush handy. That is a small downside of the material, not the quality or manufature of this shirt which is excellent. It feels great against the skin and is warm. The great thing abour merino wool is that i feel comfortable in this shirt over a wide temperature range.

Minus33 Merino Wool Men's Chocorua Midweight Crew (705) FAQ.

I am 5'10", about 168-170 pounds. The medium did not fit right. The sleeves were too short. I ordered medium-tall size and it is prefect. I love it. I have quite few items from now not existing company ibex and this wardrobe is at least 30% cheaper for comparable garment with same or better quality. Highly recommend. I have also the ridge cuff beanie which i am wearing now every day. It's giving me the right amount of warming without overheating. Merino wool is the best for base layer. -Notice from Q. I love my minus 33 wool shirts. I started with a lightweight one (tico) for fall hunting and now have the tall sized medium weight. I used it for ice fishing last winter. I love it, it wicks the moisture away and doesn't stick after a few hours like the synthetic fabrics. I will wear it for a whole weekend while ice fishing. I am not sure i would want a heavy duty one, it might be too much warmth for me when sitting in the ice shanty. . The tall size is great, you can be assured it won't come untucked or slide up under my ice bibs.

- H. GuestThis is my second purchase of this sweater. It has served well for five years of backpacking. I also have the heavyweight version and used it an equal amount. The only issue i had was the fit. I am 5'10 and 175 lbs. I have an average build, not a muscle man and no beer gut. This time around i ordered a large as opposed to medium. I will be ordering the heavy version in a large also. The medium for me is a little short in length and also short in the sleeves. They are good inexpensive sweaters. I like them. Mine are being replaced as they have a couple of tears which were through my abuse.

I am 6'2" tall weigh 235 lbs and in good shape. I bought the xl and it fits well. I wore this hiking up mt monadnock a couple of days after thanksgiving. The temps were in the 50's but it was very windy at the top. This kept me warm with just a thin base and a windbreaker. Well worth the money. Feels very good and not thick at all considering how warm it is. This is a good medium base. The great thing about wool is that if it does get wet it will still keep you warm. Also does not smell the way synthetics will after a day of hiking.

The F.A.Q. for minus33 merino wool midweight neck gaiter

Love this, and gave two more as gifts to my daughters in law, and they seemed to like them, too. Haven't had much freezing weather in this region this year, so i've only worn the item two or three times. Very nice.

A number of questions have been asked here.

Q&A

(0) Question: What is the opening measurement my head measures 24 inches around at the temple

(1) Question: Would this fit my 4 year old?

(2) Question: Is it easy to breathe through the gaiter?

(3) Question: I wear a 19 inch neck size in a dress shirt , will this gaiter be large enough?

(4) Question: Will this work with a beard?

(5) Question: How tall and wide is this layed flat ? the width of 54cm given answer must refer to the circumference ?

(6) Question: In what country is this made?

(7) Question: Can you use this like a balaclava, hat or in other ways like some oof the tube gaiters

(8) Question: Can someone clarify the height and width of this. the answer given does not makes sense. does the 54cm refer to diameter of it , all the way around ?

Material is soft and smooth, is stretchy sideways but not length wise. It is 11 inches tall, 8 inches wide (laid flat), and about 1/16 thick (two layers measured together as it made). Can stretch to nearly 13 inches wide. Need to wash it as it smells like a factory. Stitching appears to be of good quality no loose or irregular threads. I can fold it in half and half again so to cover just my neck and is still comfortable to wear. It is 17 f and my neck was oblivious to the cold. Perfect when not wanting to wear a scarf or ninja balaclava. Hand washed it with a mixture of shampoo and body wash in tepid water (ran out of woolite) and let it air dry. Thought about using a cream rinse but, decided that would be too much. It kept its shape throughout. Looks like a keeper. Made in china. Minus one star for ugly logo and kinda large tag.

Best minus33 merino wool midweight neck gaiter (730p) in review

A friend introduced me to buff while hiking and i really like them because they can keep my neck warm, or my hair back. Hiking clothes are often drab, so i like that buff adds a pop of color and/or pattern. Because i m girly, and i like to look cute, even in the backcountry. I also figured buff could work in a chilly house, or a chilly office, as a fashionably warm accessory. That said, i strongly prefer merino to synthetics, and buffs are synthetic. This minus33 is a really pretty color, and is soft, warm and comfortable. I have no complaints. It s double thickness so it has a certain amount of stiffness to it. I d still like to find something that s single thickness and longer, more flexible and versatile. Like a buff. Only in merino.

I love minus 33 products! i have their thick wool socks, their long sleeved wool tops, their 'long john" wool bottoms just to name a few clothing items. I buy their socks 6 pair at a time because i love them so much for that wonderful warmth you need in the winter. Now i have this super neck gaiter. In fact, i bought 2 navy, 2 black, 2 tan and one violet. So warm! not possible to pull up over your head, but to keep your neck warm then this is ideal! i don't need a wool scarf! but they aren't just for outside. I have worn these around the house just to feel toasty! sort of stylish with a long sleeved top and a pair of sweats! and with the socks and other items, i don't need to turn on the heat in 40 degree weather! i read some other reviewers felt this gaiter is itchy a bit. I am used to minus 33 and never feel the itch-if there is one to begin with-merino wool is not really an itchy wool. Not like way back in the day when all wool seemed itchy. I think wool is the best thing going to keep you warm on a cold day. And minus 33 makes the best merino wool items for the best price on the market! i wouldn't go snowboarding or skiing without them! i do have to say that i found the navy and the black colors went over my head easier than the tan or the violet ones. There is a little cord in one end of this gaiter that is sewn in and it seems a bit tighter on the last two colors than on the first two that i mentioned. My head is small, so it isn't a big deal to me, but just letting you know.

This is a very warm yet breathable gaiter. It is also is less scratchy feeling than many. However, the package said small when it got here. It was purchased for a male runner (5'10" and 160lbs). Thankfully it fit with room to spare but i don't know how it would fit a larger man.

I have worn this for a few weeks now, so i feel i can give a review. Like all minus33 gear, it is made of soft, new zealand raised (sewn in china), merino wool. The good stuff, in other words. As a fan of natural fabrics, especially wool (and linen), i seek out merino wool for if at all possible. It is generally soft and not irritating to the skin (i suffer from allergies to darn near everything), warm, and it breathes. The latter is all the more important when exerting yourself in the cold (and heat). . I ordered this mostly for my bicycle commute, as a cold neck and chin are definitely not pleasant (and downright dangerous when extremely cold at speed). This gaiter is the ideal weight for exerting myself on the bike, providing insulation from the wind and allowing perspiration to evaporate. It allows some wind to penetrate, but is still warm (i run hot, so your conditions may be different). I find it useful down to about 15f or so, any colder than that and i don't ride (and too many encounters with iced pavement). . It has plenty of stretch to it, easily staying on my face over the chin, mouth, or nose. It is easily adjusted as conditions change. The latter will result in condensation on my glasses, but that is the case with most gaiters and balaclavas. It can even cover the ears, although i usually wear a cap under the helmet, as cold ears are my pet, and painful, peeve. . Wash-wise, minus33 gear is all machine washable on cold. I believe the tags list low dry, but i prefer to line dry my wool goods. . Only quibble i have is that i feel it could be a little longer, for more coverage down into my jersey. . Recommended!

Great product, though i wish that they made a heavyweight neck gaiter. I use this to keep my neck from locking up when it gets cold, due to a spinal neck injury. Other lightweight gaiters are of no help. A heavier weight version of this one i would buy in a heart beat! easy to care for and well worth the money spent.

T. Weber, Vermont says

After lots of time outside in very cold temps, if you don't have wool on at least your feet, face, and hands, you're not gonna have as good of a time. Feet always end up sweating so wool is great there, hands get wet in snow, and you are always breathing so your facemask/hat will invariably get wet. If you use fleece, you'll notice it always freezes up even if you get windproof facemasks with the mouth vents, and then it won't dry out. Wool, however, insulates even when wet and thus will actually continue drying and avoid freezing up on you. Trust me, (down to -40f tent camping in my experience) you want wool on your face and neck. The only thing to look out for is the thickness you're getting and maybe the gaiter length (this one covers my entire face and neck which is good, and there isn't a bunch of extra length to get in my way which is nice). This is a 2-ply neck gaiter made with 100% merino wool, 230 g/m2 interlock knit, 18. 5 micron fibers(from the minus33 website). So you're really getting a double layer of more of a heavyweight merino wool (light is usually around 150g/m2 and mid around 190g/m2). This is a good thing in cold weather. It's not gonna be windproof but that's what your outer layers are for. This piece is great, it breathes and dries, and i won't go back to anything else.

E. Aldana, Bromley

This is just what i was looking for: a close-fitting wool gaiter to keep my neck & chin warm in the harsh chicago winter. I've worn it on 90 minute walks in 5 degree weather with a down coat and found it sufficiently warm. The merino wool does resist collecting odors even after being worn repeatedly. I did hand wash it immediately upon receipt because it had a bit of a chemical smell, but a soak in natural laundry detergent, repeated rinsing, and a day hanging dry did away with that. I highly recommend this item for anyone hoping to keep up outdoor activities in inhospitably cold temperatures without needless bulk!

D. Fabian, Oklahoma says

I looked at a loooot of different neck gaiters before chosing this one. I love everything about this neck warmer. I am able to pull it up to hide my face or just leave it down around my neck. It is thick, soft and comfortable but not bulky. I'll get one for my husband next!

T. Kimberly, Kingston upon Thames

I bought this to use while cycling, but i ve actually been wearing it every day! it is warmer and more comfortable than any scarf i own. Soooo soft and thick but not bulky easily fits under any coat collar. I m amazed at how well it blocks the wind, whether on the bike or walking through a snow storm. It s long enough to pull up over my nose and still completely cover my neck. It stays where you put it and doesn t slide down. I definitely recommend this product!

L. Finch, Montana says

If you live the cold weather, this is a must have. Wool is the best for cold weather. Fits well, snug when drawn up.

B. Guest, New Mexico

Nice and warm, much smaller to pack than a scarf. Not as soft as some merino wool but it is densely knit and protects well from the wind. Not as tall as a buff, will reach from your collar bone to your nose.

Q. Dorine, Virginia says

This gaiter is must have to go with my minus 33 crew neck style matching shirt. It's warm, not too tight or too bulky to pull over your head and seems to not be stretching out of shape. I can pull it up over my nose or even over my eyes(not that i'm encouraging you to walk around with your eyes covered, just to give you an idea of the length). My breath does condensate a bit and creates a wet spot when covering my nose and mouth but i just slide it around and let that spot dry. Dries quickly. I don't like to have anything completely over my face all the time, but in a strong wind/snow storm it's at wonderful option. The merino wool is light but warm. I wear it instead of a scarf. Less constricting, i love it.

F. Monique, Manchester

I like to bike in the winter and this is probably the best neck gaiter for it. It is double layered unlike some very very thin merino wool products which are single which adds a lot to the warmth. Very good breathability when it is up over the nose. I like to pull it up as high as i can before putting a hat on so it covers my ears. Snow goggles hold it in place well.
